1st Grade English Language Arts with Ms. Setili
It's time to dig in!
In my ELA room, I use the Daily 5 as my teaching style. This is centers-based learning. Every day, each student will be exposed to writing, word work, guided reading with the teacher, listening to a story, phonics/grammar games, and reading to self and others. Each guided reading lesson will be tailored to each individual student and their needs. But, all will cover the same types of information but at a different pace. This week, we will read a story called "Nat and Sam" in our Wonders series readers. We will learn how to use a strategy called Close Reading to answer comprehension questions about the story. We will use an interactive notebook as an extension to our reading. Welcome Back to School!
We will be getting to know each other this week! I am so excited to be working with you and your children this year. Feel free to look around the site. It is a work in progress as we get started. I will add pages as they become important to us as first grade learners. Eventually, there will be a spelling list page as well as a writing page and reading so you can see what programs we use in the classroom. This week, we will be discussing how to be a good citizen and making a classroom pledge (i.e. rules). We will also go over our procedures for fire, tornado, and other things that pertain to our classroom environment. We will also be learning about Mass etiquette. We will not be starting our normal Daily 5 Center routine this week. We will be doing book studies with the author Kevin Henkes instead. |
