The holiday season is upon us! We have a shortened week which means no spelling test!
Monday, we are spending time as a combined class with our family volunteers to cook and eat a Thanksgiving meal with our friends at school. Tuesday will be our first read-in! Notes go home Monday. Students can bring a pillow, blanket, stuffed animal and books from home. We will spend our time reading books together, with friends, and alone. We will be focusing on writing sentences that explain. For our hallway, we are writing a story about how to save a turkey from being eaten for Thanksgiving dinner. Our focus will be writing complete sentences with proper capitalization and punctuation.
We return to working on irregular plural nouns (i.e.: men, man; tooth, teeth). We will also introduce the inflectional ending -es. We will read "Fun with Maps" (a nonfictional text). While we read, we will identify main topic & key details. We will continue working on the beginning and end blends of th, sh, and -ng. New spelling words for this week have been posted. In a greater effort to go green, smaller sheets will be sent home for the spelling list. If you'd like to opt out of this paper copy and retrieve the list online, please send me an email! Thanks!
In our writing, we will work on organization. We are still learning how to organize a sentence when we write. We will continue to work on common and proper nouns - focusing on capitalizing proper nouns. We will start working on capitalizing days of the week and months of the year. This week will also be a review week for the short e sound. Our story "Nell's Bells" focuses on this sound. And, we will continue to work on identifying character, setting, and events. |
